I find CarChex to be the best when it comes to coverage. The team is helpful – I knew I had a problem (rear view mirror came off) but called to double-check. Since I’m away from home for a couple of weeks, I asked for suggestions on where to get it fixed. The lady I spoke with emailed me a list of five local shops. I’ve had a few claims (small things like the time difference between my shop and the adjuster, but all in all fair coverage). I hope I never need to use it, but knowing I have it for bigger issues gives me peace of mind. I’m not looking for a cheap deal, just fair coverage (and the benefit of sharing risk, with hopes of not needing to tap into it). What stands out to me (as I confirmed in a call today) is that the staff is great – they really care about the customer experience.

He really listened to what I wanted and answered all my questions. And get this—they gave me a better rate than Carvana, with more coverage on mileage and years. Their package even covered more stuff on the car than Carvana’s best warranty. I’m definitely coming back here for my next used car.

Instead of shelling out $3,000.00 for CarChex, I should have just saved that cash and earned some interest. My 2019 Cadillac XTS had issues, and the repair bill amounted to $3,332.74. However, CarChex/American Auto Shield only covered $946.45, leaving me to cough up the remaining $2,385.74. Despite forking over $3,000.00 to CarChex years ago, this is the first time I've had to use their services.

The Cadillac CUE system went out and they refused to pay for it citing act of nature. I can't control how hot it iz where I live and not everyone haz a garage. I feel like I got bait & switched.

Unfortunately, my claim faced a setback as the transmission part in question wasn't covered, despite being under the "Bumper-to-Bumper" (Powertrain Plus) coverage I thought I had. The total charge for the uncovered part and repair reached $829.47. Surprisingly, I've already paid a total of $879.92, an amount that could have easily covered the repair cost. This raises the question of the value of continuing to pay for the "Bumper-to-Bumper" coverage when it appears that CarChex doesn't fully honor its coverage commitments. The situation prompts me to reconsider the wisdom of allocating $109.99 monthly to CarChex when the coverage seems less comprehensive than expected. It might make more financial sense to redirect that money into personal savings. In doing so, I could have a fund ready to cover any necessary repairs, circumventing the frustrations encountered with CarChex's limitations. A notable lesson from my experience is the realization that CarChex may cover the engine and transmission but falls short when it comes to parts essential for the proper functioning of these components. This catch means customers are left footing the bill for such parts and their associated labor costs, potentially leading to significant expenses. It's a critical aspect to consider for anyone weighing the pros and cons of CarChex coverage.

CARCHEX Pushy Sales and Poor Coverage

They were super pushy, trying to keep me on the phone until I signed up. The price started at $199.99 a month, then dropped to $149.99, but I still said no. The next day, another call came and they lowered it to $139.99, keeping me on the phone for another 30-45 minutes until I finally caved. They claimed they had the best coverage, supposedly justifying the higher prices, saying I drive a BMW and should want the best. They mentioned a 30-day cancellation period, so I signed up just to get them off the phone. I called my BMW dealer afterward, and they said CARCHEX is one of the worst to deal with. CARCHEX doesn't cover OEM parts unless there's no alternative. They cover aftermarket, used, refurbished parts, and if you want OEM, you have to pay extra. I immediately called CARCHEX to cancel and explained my reasons. They confirmed they don't cover OEM parts and canceled my coverage. CARCHEX also misleads by flaunting their BBB A+ rating, but if you check the BBB site, there are lots of 1-star reviews, and their overall rating is just 2 stars. I wouldn't recommend CARCHEX unless you're okay with non-OEM parts.

After getting a response from Carchex, I feel like I need to share my experience again. I had two claims, and both times, they tried every way to avoid covering the repairs. For the first claim, they said some of the fixes weren’t necessary. My repair shop was so embarrassed by the hassle that they covered the difference themselves. The second claim was even worse. We followed their sales rep's advice to go to an official agency for repairs and quality parts, just to avoid more problems later. But still, we ended up paying out of pocket for original parts and service. Honestly, it was a huge letdown and a waste of money. Carchex's reply didn’t solve anything or make them look responsible. When I called to cancel the policy, the person on the phone was super rude. As soon as I started explaining why I wanted to cancel, they cut me off with "yadayadayada, OK OK, never mind." It was so dismissive. This whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth, and I just want to forget it ever happened. I hope Carchex gets the same treatment they gave us.

Fortunately, no issues arose with the car before selling, but the company's behavior raised concerns about potential claims. Overall, a horrible experience, and I strongly advise against engaging with this company to avoid unnecessary fees and potential complications.

Been with Carchex since 2016, driving this sleek 2014 Mercedes C250. At first, they were absolutely great, handling all my maintenance issues like a dream. But man, these last two years? A total nightmare. Every time I head to the dealer now, I'm shelling out more than half the repair costs from my own pocket. Seriously, save yourself the hassle and letdown. Avoid this warranty at all costs!
