Very easy to start with. The interface is simple to understand. You can go slow and review anytime. Took the test and lessons were just right.

Overall, I think the company is heading in the right direction, but there's still room for some improvement. Positive points: - I’m happy that the cancellation process went smoothly and without any problems. - Some of the features, like the pronunciation check and chatting with famous figures, are quite creative and enjoyable. Negative points: - The "play voice" function often stops working after just a few messages, which makes the chat less useful. - The feedback sometimes didn’t match what I said. A few times I intentionally made errors just to see the response and was told my Spanish was flawless with no corrections needed! - The "describe a picture" exercise could be better if it included more realistic photos of everyday life instead of all the abstract images.

It feels like you’re led to believe that all the features you discuss during the presentation are included, but after selecting your plan, they start charging extra for everything and each one is priced separately. This would have made it really costly. Since I said no to all the 'extras', I’m not even sure what’s actually included in my plan anymore. I don’t like being hit with these kinds of surprises...they should be more clear from the start. Now, I’m starting this new personal journey with a bad feeling. I really hope my experience gets better from here.

First of all, I don’t like being asked to leave a review just a day after using the app. It also seems like this app only provides the basic features and nothing more. After buying a plan, you’re asked multiple times to pay extra for features that should already come with the price. I haven’t used the app enough to give a full review, but I was already let down by the AI chat feature. It doesn’t seem to work like it was shown in the ads.

I haven’t been using the program for too long

I haven’t been using the program for too long, but so far I enjoy making my own sentences and getting feedback. I’m still at the beginner level, but I feel it might be a bit hard for complete beginners. Luckily, I already know some French and have a fair amount of vocabulary. However, I haven't come across any ways to practice speaking or listening to conversations. Maybe I just haven't discovered that feature yet?

They charge me without providing any bills or explanations, and there's no way for me to view or control my subscription. Despite reaching out via email three times, I haven't received any response.

Misleading subscription model and no support. Avoid this service!

I subscribed to Makes You Fluent in June 2024, thinking I was purchasing one-time access to their web platform. At no point was it made clear that I was entering into a recurring annual subscription, nor did I receive any document outlining a billing agreement or contract. Fast forward to June 2025, I was charged $89.99 without any prior email notification or reminder. Had I received even a simple message informing me of the upcoming renewal, I would have cancelled it immediately, especially since I no longer use the service and the product I paid for no longer exists. The original web app was discontinued, and I was forced to download a completely new app, which offers no access to my subscription details, billing info, or cancellation options. It’s as if they deliberately make it hard to cancel… I sent two emails to their support email address requesting a refund and cancellation. I have received no response whatsoever. Strangely enough, the company seems to find time to respond to public reviews, but completely ignores direct emails from their customers. To make matters worse, they claim that subscription information was “shown at checkout” and in the confirmation email. I kept that email, and I can confirm it says nothing about pricing, renewal terms, or any ongoing subscription. Suggesting that customers should remember tiny print from a checkout page a year earlier is simply unreasonable and misleading. This feels like a deliberate business model designed to trap users into automatic renewals without transparency or consent. Avoid this service at all costs. It is dishonest, unresponsive, and disrespectful to paying customers!

This App is not working properly

I downloaded MakesYourFluent expecting a structured language learning experience, but it was very disappointing. There’s no clear guidance or lesson plan—just a series of small windows with classes at different levels, many of which don’t work properly. For example, the microphone and play buttons often don’t function. I wasn’t given a placement test, so the app automatically placed me at the beginner level. I didn’t pay to start from scratch. The AI tutor asks questions and recognizes what you say, but it doesn’t correct your mistakes at all—so you might as well be speaking to yourself. There’s no explanation of how the app or lessons are supposed to work. You’re left to randomly choose from beginner-level vocabulary with no support or structure. Overall, it’s a confusing and frustrating experience. I strongly recommend avoiding MakesYourFluent unless they offer a proper free trial. I requested a refund will see how the customer service is working. Will defiantly post the result of the refund experience.

Billing fraud

The app is so-so. It might be helpful if you are a beginner. Much of what it offers in terms of AI you can get simply by interacting directly with ChatGPT or other AI applications. Write your own prompt for how you want your tutor to engage with you! the problem is that the business engages in fraudulent billing practices. In my case, I canceled my subscription but they billed me anyway — as others have reported. Luckily my bank flagged it as a fraudulent charge (which indicates they've received lots of complaints). A quick look at reviews also reveals this is a common experience.

Became full

I subscribed for only 6 months and the program didn't suit me, so I stopped using it from the second week. Unfortunately, when the period ended, they renewed the subscription without my permission. When I contacted them, they didn't appreciate the situation and refused to refund the money, claiming that I hadn't canceled the membership before the subscription period ended. Beware of falling into the trap of this site exploiting the Visa card data stored with them when you subscribe, because they will use it without your permission under the pretext of renewing the subscription.

They advertised that they offer British English learning, but once I made the payment, I discovered that this was not the case at all. It was frustrating to find out after the fact, and when I reached out for a refund, they outright refused. I wasted my time trying to resolve this issue with their customer service, whojust repeted that they do not refund. I will be pursuing a refund through my bank, but I regret the time lost dealing with a company that seems to only care about taking money rather than delivering what they promise. Avoid at all costs

Nadat ik zou betalen kwamen de popups, wat me irriteerde, ik wou stoppen. Maar dat gaat zo maar niet. Dus ik probeerde de app. Ik wil naar de bank. Dan moet je naar de bakker. Ik wil tanken. Dan moet je naar de apotheek. Ik wil naar het ziekenhuis. Oke, ga naar het zwembad. Als ik een echt wildvreemde taal wil leren, dan leer ik zo de totaal verkeerde woorden. Dit is echt slecht. Ik weet nog niet wat te doen, hun reactie was erg dom, wijzend op het feit dat ik voor een half jaar had betaald. Ja, voor lessen waar ik iets aan heb, niet voor fouten!

Do NOT waste your time & money

I’m VERY dissatisfied & disappointed with MakesYouFluent. Do NOT give this company your money. You get nothing in return. All it is is clicking through one word at a time. Can get that from a free online dictionary. I mistakenly added an extended subscription from 6 months to 12 months. Within one hour I asked for the 2nd charge to be reversed & they REFUSED. The program is not even what they advertise. I wonder if the positive reviews are fake. I think it’s a big ripoff & am posting this negative review to warn others.

Empresa poco seria y nada confiable. No comprar, engañan

Aparte de que solo funciona desde el móvil, la aplicación no responde en muchas de las opciones o se queda dando vueltas sin parar (móvil moderno y buena conexión a Internet). Y se niegan, aduciendo a su política de empresa, a realizar la devolución del importe, a pesar de no haber utilizado por motivos obvios el servicio ni 5 minutos. ¿Cómo se llama el acto de cobrar por un servicio o producto que no funciona?

Neat concept, lousy content

I can only comment on the Spanish language side of the app but the phrases it uses are straight out of Comedy Central... nobody speaks like that. The quickest way to communicate with people in any country are to use simple phrases that convey simple ideas, opinions, and needs. So, while the overall concept is fine, the execution needs to be revisited and the content made fit for purpose in the 21st century.

You will keep getting charged

Signed up for this, however never used it. Got charged again (for 6 months) and on the day of the charge asked to cancel and get refunded. They responded a day later trying to talk me into staying with the service. I responded that I had never used the service and to cancel and refund. They said that I was required to proceed 24 hour notice prior to being charged and no refund would be given.

Scam!

Subpar language learning app that offers little if anything you couldn't do yourself with chat gpt. They offer a risk free refund at checkout but them decline to refund when request a few days later. I received an email requesting I jump through hoops and prove to them why I deserve a refund. No thank you! I am too busy for games but I have enough time to write some reviews.

Not serios about trial period being cancellable!

I entered a one week trial and immediately wrote to them that I did not want to continue the monthly plan thereafter. As per instruction on their website, wrote three times to their service email and never heard back. Then promptly they charged me a monthly fee, now I have to fight with them and get my credit card to cancel their charge. This is not serious behaviour !

Be careful

Be careful with this app. Users cannot manage renewals or subscriptions themselves—everything has to be requested by email. This puts you at serious risk of being charged repeatedly. That happened to me, and I never received a refund even though I asked not to be on auto-renewal. In the end, reporting it to my bank and changing my credit card was the only solution.
